The Benefits of Office Catering
Published on: July 22, 2025
At Social Pantry, we’ve always believed that good food has the power to do more than just feed people. Whether it’s a nourishing breakfast, midday refuel, or a catered celebration, office catering goes far beyond what’s on the plate –it’s a way to support your team’s wellbeing, strengthen company culture, and create a workplace that people genuinely enjoy being part of.
So, we’re diving into what office catering really involves, the wide-reaching benefits it brings, and why we believe more businesses should be embracing it as a vital part of their workplace culture.
Office catering could mean providing regular daily lunches; food & drink for meetings, conferences, and one-off office socials; snacks and drinks throughout the day; or all of the above.
Different types of workplace catering:
- Regular catering: Food provided on a regular basis, such as daily lunches or weekly breakfasts
- One-off catering: Food provided for meetings, conferences, special occasions, team socials or “just because”
Meals that are available:
- Breakfast and brunch: From freshly baked pastries and healthy breakfast pots to hot plated brunch dishes, we offer a wide range of different workplace breakfast options.
- Mid-Morning Snacks: Jam-packed schedule of morning meetings and workshops? We can organise mid-morning pick-me-ups like fresh seasonal fruit platters, protein balls and homemade granola bars.
- Lunch: Our most popular catering option, we can provide anything from grab-and-go lunch pots, sandwiches, salads and bento boxes to hot plated meals.
- Afternoon snacks and treats: Think homemade cookies, cakes, pastries and more.
- Grazing tables and food stations: Ideal for informal team meetings or social events, these can include cheese & charcuterie platters, BBQ stations and more.
Who is it for?
Office catering is not just for the big players. Whether you’re a start-up of 10, a company of 50, or a corporate HQ of 500+, there’s a catering solution to fit your team, your space and your values.

There’s so much more to workplace catering than just what’s on the plate. From boosting employee morale to strengthening company culture, here are some of the powerful ways that office catering can transform the workplace.
Boosting Productivity
Giving employees access to delicious, nourishing meals at work can dramatically improve focus, concentration, and overall performance. Whether it’s a nourishing breakfast to fuel a morning of meetings, a protein-packed lunch or afternoon treat to keep energy levels high throughout the afternoon, having regular, nutritionally-balanced catering supports energy levels and mental clarity throughout the day.
Fostering Community & Culture
One of the most powerful benefits of workplace catering is the way it brings people together. A catered breakfast, lunch or even afternoon snack becomes more than just a meal, but a chance to pause, chat and bond with colleagues across different departments. And, in an age of hybrid and remote work, these in-person moments matter more than ever. That’s why we practise what we preach at Social Pantry, sitting down to enjoy lunch together every single day.
Valuing Employee Wellbeing
Providing food at work is a simple yet powerful way to show your team that they’re cared for. Whether it’s a daily breakfast, monthly lunch or a one-off treat, encouraging teams to step away from their desks to enjoy a meal, shows that you value the employee as much as you value the work they do.
Boosting Employee Health
Providing a workplace with delicious, nutritionally balanced meals means that people can avoid skipping meals, or reaching for unhealthy (and often expensive) high street convenience options.
At Social Pantry, we’re dedicated to creating delicious and exciting seasonal dishes that also deliver exceptional nutritional value. Our menus are rich in protein and plants, providing teams with the fuel they need to feel healthier and more energised throughout the day.
Attracting New Talent
In a competitive hiring market, workplace perks can make all the difference. Good office catering is more than just a ‘nice-to-have’, it signals that a business cares about employee wellbeing and culture. Recent research (*Global Eating at Work Survey, 2023) shows that 81% of Gen Z say an on-site restaurant would influence their decision to join a company.*
Enhancing Employee Engagement & Retention
It’s no surprise that people who feel more appreciated at work are more engaged, and therefore more likely to stick around for the long haul.
Offering regular meals or even occasional treats is a simple but meaningful way to show your team that they’re valued. It gives employees something to look forward to in their workday, reinforces a sense of belonging and helps build a workplace culture that people genuinely want to be part of, long-term.
Celebrating Diversity
Food is a great medium for celebrating culture, heritage and identity in the workplace. Through diverse, inclusive menus, workplace catering can honour the different backgrounds and tastes that make up your team.
From fun themed days to menus inspired by global cuisines or significant cultural holidays, catering can become a way to both celebrate and educate on diversity in the workplace. It sparks conversation, encourages cultural exchange, and helps everyone feel seen and represented.
Supporting Sustainability
Office catering isn’t just beneficial for your workplace – if you choose to work with a catering company that champions sustainable practices it can be better for the planet too.
At Social Pantry, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From sourcing local, seasonal ingredients to delivering food in electric vehicles and running a zero-to-landfill kitchen, we’re proud to lead the way in responsible catering.
When you partner with us, you’re aligning your business with a B Corp certified company that puts purpose before profit. For companies looking to meet their own sustainability goals or simply make more conscious choices, our approach to catering makes it easy to do the right thing, without compromising on flavour or style.
So, if office catering offers so many benefits, why isn’t every business doing it? Here, we break down the most common barriers to workplace catering, and why it might be time to rethink them.
“We’re Not Sure It’s Worth It”
The main reason that so many workplaces don’t offer catering is that they simply don’t understand how many benefits it brings. And to that, we suggest sending them this article!
“It’s Too Expensive”
We hear this a lot, and we get it – regular catering for large numbers of employees will, no doubt, add up. But you don’t need to provide your workplace a full breakfast or lunch every single day to start seeing benefits. A weekly breakfast, monthly team lunch, or even one-off seasonal celebration can have a real impact without breaking the budget.
And let’s not forget the return on investment: improved productivity, reduced absenteeism, lower employee turnover, and a more engaged workforce all translate to financial gains in the long run. So, when viewed as part of your overall people strategy, catering is an investment, not just a cost.
“We Don’t Have the Facilities”
Good news: you don’t need them. At Social Pantry, we offer a couple of workplace catering options that don’t require an on-site kitchen. With our ‘Drop-Off’ and ‘Styled & Served’ packages, all the food is prepared off-site at Social Pantry HQ, then delivered fresh to your workplace in time for service.
“It’s Too Complicated to Manage”
Managing menus, preferences, dietary needs and logistics can feel overwhelming, but that’s where partnering with a professional caterer makes all the difference.
We’re here to make things simple – just chat to one of our dedicated workplace partners about what you need and when, and we’ll handle the rest. Our monthly workplace menus cover a wide range of different tastes and dietary requirements, but we can also create bespoke dishes or menus to suit your workplace.
At Social Pantry, we’re on a mission to change the way companies consider office catering in order to make workplace lunches something worth commuting for! Our catering offers a fresher, more thoughtful alternative that nourishes teams and transforms lunch breaks into something genuinely enjoyable.
It’s a proven fact that eating well in the workplace can have a significant impact on overall health and well-being amongst the team, as well as boosting performance and productivity throughout the day. Providing the workforce with a nutritious breakfast, brunch or lunch drop off is not only a brilliant way to ensure teams are on top of their game but is a fantastic work perk to make commutes that bit more bearable, giving employees a reason to get into the office earlier and save time spent in long sandwich shop queues!
Here at Social Pantry, we pride ourselves on creating food that brings teams together, give your team a reason to look forward to coming in to the office with a monthly meet-up – a brilliant way to build colleague relationships, introduce new starters as well as ease anyone reluctant to return to office life with work perks that will make them eager to get back. Our office catering options cover all dietary requirements and can be adapted to the tone and feel of any workforce, from corporate client meetings to casual networking sessions. We also offer a wide range of refreshments for team drinks with a difference!
Show the team some appreciation for their hadwork and embrace being together in real life, with an office party!
Give the team something to celebrate with office perks that are not the same when working from home. We love to ‘wow’ with our office catering options and can discuss ways to throw the perfect party depending on the requirements of the team. By using an office catering company for the welcome back get-together, we take the stress out of sourcing workforce food that will please the whole team. Taking care of everything from condiments to cutlery, here at Social Pantry we have years of experience in catering events from large-scale wedding breakfasts to intimate dinner parties so rest assured we can make sure the office opening party is worth the wait!
We have over a decade of experience catering for businesses of all types and sizes. Whether you need a fully managed on-site catering service or a convenient drop-off meal solution, we have an option to suit you.

Celebrate Sustainability with Contract Catering
In recent years there has been a shift in thinking when it comes to where people are spending their money and the businesses they choose to support. People are now more intentional than ever about the businesses they support and the impact of their choices, both at home and at work. Health, quality and sustainability aren’t just buzzwords, they’re values that matter deeply to employees and clients alike. And at Social Pantry, they’ve always been at the heart of what we do.
Our contract catering brings those values directly into your workplace. Not only do we champion local, seasonal produce sourced from independent suppliers who care as much as we do, we also operate our kitchens with a strict zero-to-landfill policy, and make all our deliveries in electric vehicles, making your meals even more sustainable from kitchen to desk.
This commitment to doing better across the board led to our recent certification as a B Corp, something we’re incredibly proud of and which you can read more about here.
Support Social Causes through Workplace Catering
As well as our passion for exceptional service, quality produce, and sustainable values, here at Social Pantry we also offer companies a way to support social causes through their office catering.
Making a meaningful impact through food, we work closely with local prisons and charities such as Key4Life to train and support ex-offenders, offering them a second chance and a new trade as well as skills for life after prison. More than 10% of the current team are prison leavers who have learned and developed their trade through the mentoring of the company. Supporting small businesses, improving sustainability, and making a genuine and positive impact on people’s lives has been the constant driving force behind Social Pantry from the beginning, and continues to be in everything we do including our office catering services. This means that, just by choosing Social Pantry for their catering, businesses can actively contribute to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals and meet Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria.
