The Covid wedding trends we’d like to last

We can’t say there’s much about the last twelve months of wedding reception trends that we’d like to remember. The uncertainty of ever-changing restrictions on wedding ceremonies and the disappointments that have come with planning a marriage in a pandemic have been something we’d rather forget. But covid weddings have surprisingly also taught us a few things that we would like to remain for a 2021 wedding and beyond!

As specialist wedding caterers we have certainly picked up many tips and tricks when it comes to wedding inspiration and Covid weddings have taught us a thing or two about what to expect from 2021 wedding trends.

1.Small yet perfectly formed

We might be more than a year in, but restrictions are still yet to be fully lifted and with dates changing all of the time, one Covid trend set to continue for a summer 2021 wedding is the carefully curated guestlist. Limited guest numbers allow planning to be a lot more thoughtful and intimate whilst providing a great excuse to shake off the relatives and plus ones you would ordinarily feel obliged to invite. Covid weddings proved that big is not always best. Smaller weddings allow more attention and more budget for everything from the reception venue to your wedding catering menu and can be a perfect way to tie the knot!

2. Love Local

Supporting the local economy has never been so important since the start of the pandemic. So many small brands and independent companies have suffered terribly through the pandemic and now more than ever we are all aware of the importance of shopping local. From florists and wedding caterers, to invites and dress makers, bride and grooms are opting to spend their money locally, which not only gives a much-needed boost to companies in need but is also a lovely touch to any wedding ceremony. Think seasonal flowers, handcrafted cakes and sustainably sourced wedding menus. A covid wedding trend we’re definitely happy to see stay for 2021.

3.Virtual Vows

We might all be a bit zoomed out from the last twelve months and the return of real-life events have certainly been a huge relief for many. But one thing we’ve learnt is that a virtual wedding can in fact be a great inclusion, set to continue as another favourable 2021 wedding trend. Bringing guests together from all over the world at the touch of a button, virtual weddings can allow future brides and grooms to invite guests to enjoy their big day that may not be able to attend in real life and are especially helpful now that travelling is still so uncertain.
