Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Amanda’s journey from agency worker to future supervisor at the Old Bailey

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining a spotlight on Amanda, one of the longest-serving team member based at the Central Criminal Court (the Old Bailey).

Amanda joined the site in 2015, back when the contract was run by another caterer, starting as an agency worker working between the court cafes. Over the years, she’s become a key member of the team, leading operations and ensuring standards and processes run smoothly.

Amanda first explored the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor Programme a few years ago but wasn’t able to progress due to  Government requirements for functional skills. Last year, the rules changed, removing those barriers for adult learners – and Amanda jumped at the opportunity to enrol.

Since restarting the programme, Amanda has been thriving, supported by her tutor and our team. Despite some challenges, including managing dyslexia which has made it challenging at times, Amanda is glad she stuck with it. “It’s great to feel successful, progressing on a journey that I started nine years ago!” she says. “It’s helping me to take the next step in my career.”

Looking ahead, once Amanda completes her Level 3 Apprenticeship, we’ll be discussing a more senior role for her and opportunities to evolve the service offering at the Old Bailey.

Amanda’s career with Social Pantry is a powerful reminder that perseverance pays off – with determination and the right support, progress is possible, no matter the barriers.

We’re incredibly proud of Amanda’s achievements and look forward to continuing to support our team as they grow and progress in their careers.
