Staying at Great Scotland Yard Hotel was a wonderful experience in the heart of London. Set in such a historic and iconic location, the old police station combines classic British character with modern luxury, creating a stay that feels both elegant and unique.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the smell of fresh flowers in the reception is wonderful, at that point you know you are in for a lovely stay! The interiors have a stylish, sophisticated feel, the art is bold and unique and includes a wall dedicated to art made by inmates while incarcerated.
The rooms are beautifully designed with thoughtful details. I was hosted in one of the suites, it had a dining room and living room area, separate bedroom with full walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. The bed, pillows and linen were heavenly and made for a wonderful night’s sleep. Waking up in the heart of the city but not hearing any of the buzz makes it extremely relaxing.
What makes the stay at the hotel unique is breakfast by Swedish chef Niklas Ekstedt. It was a beautiful way to start the morning, a Nordic-inspired menu, all cooked over fire and a carefully curated buffet. The selection cheeses, granola toppings, freshly baked breads and pastries, including the Swedish-style cardamom bun, were particular favourites.
I loved how breakfast felt like more than just the first meal of the day — it was a relaxed and delicious experience in itself. After breakfast, you are perfectly placed to head out and explore some of London’s most iconic sights.
One of the highlights is the hotel’s fantastic location. With Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Covent Garden and many of London’s famous attractions just a short walk away, it is the perfect base for exploring the city. If I only had 24 hours in the city this is exactly where I’d stay.
If you can spend a few nights in the hotel, you’ll discover the hotel’s speakeasy cocktail bar. Hidden away from the main hotel, it has a wonderfully atmospheric feel — dark, elegant and a little mysterious. There are over 1000 whiskey bottles from the highlands and lowlands of Scottland hanging from the ceiling.
The cocktails are beautifully crafted, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring London. There’s something special about stepping into a hidden bar and feeling like you’ve discovered a little secret in the heart of the city.
Great Scotland Yard is the kind of hotel where the details make the stay special, stylish surroundings, a brilliant location and, of course, a breakfast worth getting out of bed for.
It offers a memorable London experience — luxurious, central and full of character. It’s a great choice for anyone looking to make their stay in London feel a little more special.
